This sensitive adaption of a 1950s mid-century gem in Hobart honors the dignity of the original design while adapting it for modern life. Born from an iterative design process, the project navigates a challenging topography and original structural constraints to replace a 1970s addition in poor condition with a modest and versatile new extension. This new multipurpose space acts as a climate-responsive sanctuary, designed to temper Hobart’s shifting seasons and dissolve the boundaries between the refined and playful interior and the owners’ cherished gardens.
